Exploration Safari Through the Kalahari

Overview

On this expedition-like safari you will travel on simple tracks through the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the Kaa Concession Area and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Long ago the Kalahari was traversed by many rivers. Many of these river courses have turned into salt pans. Salt-encrusted pans and basins alternate with typical thornbush savannah on reddish sand. Four petrified rivers traverse the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, which is the world’s second largest game reserve. In this sanctuary about 1500 members of the San people („Bushmen“) and the ethnologically related Bakgalagadi people live as hunters and gatherers. This off the beaten tourist track territory conveys the impression of infinite vastness and silence. The long chain of salt-encrusted clay pans of Kaa continues into the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park that was created by a merger of the Gemsbok National Park in Botswana and the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park in South Africa.
